While we are on the road, in order to fill your order faster, when possible we will have Amazon fill orders from our inventory in their warehouses. If you order more than 1 item they may ship from Amazon in separate packages, I will send you an e-mail to let you know when your order ships, who is shipping it & how many packages to expect.
It's 2023 and James has escalated our retirement plans. This we are finished with art & craft shows, we have sold our Bristol shoppe to a very talented ceramic sculpture artist, Lady Jone has purchased our MN Shoppe & we are planning for 2024 to be the last season we run our AZ shoppe. We are excited to be working with 2 very talented apprentices & hope to turn the AZ shoppe over to them after the 2024 season.

Kumihimo Braid with Porcelain Statement Pendant #KBN3
Kumihimo Braided Necklaces:
Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braid-making. The most prominent historical use of these cords was by samurai as both a functional and decorative way to lace their lamellar armor and their horses' armor (barding).
The necklaces seen here are made by hand; by interlacing, fiber strands using a foam disk or wooden marudai braiding stand. Kumi himo is Japanese for "gathered threads".
Carole Isenhart (James Johnson’s wife) began creating braids in July 2016 as a way to pass the time when traveling to art shows while creating thicker more colorful necklaces
for their new wire wrapped porcelain and larger statement pendants.
These Kongo Gumi braids are formed from 8 strands or warps. Satin/nylon cord, novelty yarn, ribbon or other fibers Carole discovers, give the braids their interesting texture or sparkle. Carole enjoys the creative challenge of coming up with new color combinations & braid patterns to compliment James’ ever-changing porcelain designs. Beads can be added to the braids for even more variety; watch for Carole’s beaded Kumihimo braids as she expands her braiding knowledge. Custom orders are welcome, let Carole create a neck cord just for you!
Carole is a founding member of the American Kumihimo Society (AKS) which was formed in January of 2016 as a resource for the braiding community in the Americas. While their focus is on Kumihimo, a Japanese style of braiding, they provide support and education resources to promote and nurture the public understanding of braiding from many cultures.
